The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU of Colorado) seeks a dynamic and experienced Temporary Design Assistant. This full-time, non-exempt temporary position will be based in Denver.

Summary of Temporary Position

This temporary position advances the ACLU of Colorados strategic priorities by effectively assisting with graphic design and communications tactics in the affiliates’ core issue areas. This position requires excellent skills in layout and design; proficiency in digital and print media; a strong command of branding and visual storytelling; and is highly organized. The Temporary Design Assistant sits in the affiliates Communications Department and is responsible for helping to ensure campaigns stay on a pathway to victory by collaborating with staff from our legal, advocacy, philanthropy and administration departments. This position reports directly to the Interim Director of Communications. The ACLU of Colorado is a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment and requires the ability to multitask effectively and complete tasks individually as well as in a team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, and produce a range of digital and print materials, including social media content, impact reports, advocacy and fundraising communications, and other communication assets as needed.
  • Maintain ACLU brand management guidelines and ensure visual consistency across all materials.
  • Support the work of the communications department.
  • Develop engaging digital content, including infographics, and visual storytelling components that align with the ACLUs mission and campaigns
  • Collaborate with the communications team to produce visually compelling assets for web, social media, email campaigns and printed publications.
  • Coordinate across ACLU departments and campaigns to execute tactics for mobilization of members and advocacy programs; and external distribution including website, social media platforms, newsletters and press releases.
  • Coordinate cross departmental rapid-response communications including real-time organizational coverage of campaign updates, legislative testimony, and field events as needed.
  • Ensure consistent, clear messaging that represents the ACLU of Colorado and its positions compellingly and convincingly.
  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all design work to reach diverse audiences effectively.
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of visual content to refine design approaches and enhance engagement.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of visual content strategies to engage and grow the ACLUs online audience.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team on campaigns that are aligned with and supported by strategic communications, policy, litigation, electoral programs, and other strategies and tactics
  • Promote and be an integral part of ACLU of Colorados commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong design skillset showcasing expertise in layout, typography, color theory, and brand identity.
  • Excellent Adobe Creative Suite skills, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Minimum one year of relevant experience in graphic design, digital media, marketing, content creation, or related fields.
  • Experience designing for social media, web, and print materials in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional understanding of content creation, processes, and techniques for membership development, mobilization, and list building.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and best practices in design to ensure content is inclusive for all audiences.
  • Superb organization skills with an ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing several projects on tight deadlines and adjusting to frequently shifting priorities.
  • A profound and well-articulated commitment to civil liberties and the mission of the ACLU; and an understanding of the range ACLU issues.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through, demonstrated ability to solve problems, ability to meet tight deadlines, and manage resources effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Airtable, media monitoring tools, social media management tools, and other web-based platforms as needed.

Essential Job Functions

The following activities are essential for success in this role:

  • Ability to remain at workstation for long periods of time.
  • Work in-person at the office a minimum of two days a week.
  • Some walking and standing required at ACLU-CO events.
  • Communicate with others effectively in verbal and written formats.
  • Use a computer.
  • Answer and make phone calls/text messages.
  • Have a reliable form of transportation to commute to and from the office in downtown Denver.
  • Ability to travel between locations across the state of Colorado.

Wages

This is an at-will, nonexempt, full-time, temporary position. The hourly wage for this position is $30 an hour, with an expectation of 40 hours a week and duration of six months. ACLU of Colorado provides an additional monthly parking stipend and monthly Wi-Fi subsidy.

Location

The Temporary Design Assistant may work from any location within the state of Colorado with regular access to Denver.
